Michael M. reborn.

Universal Pictures will release Trancas International Films, Blumhouse Productions and Miramax’s Halloween on Friday, October 19, 2018.

Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

Master of horror John Carpenter will executive produce and serve as creative consultant on this film, joining forces with cinema’s current leading producer of horror, Jason Blum (Get Out, Split, The Purge, Paranormal Activity).  Inspired by Carpenter’s classic, filmmakers David Gordon Green and Danny McBride crafted a story that carves a new path from the events in the landmark 1978 film, and Green also directs.

The Truth About Charlie: Setup and Payoff - Mysterious Woman in Black

Setup and Payoff / Source music / Minor characters

Setup: Early in the film, the protagonist Regina (Thandie Newton) bumps (a common human/social phenomenon) into a mysterious Woman in black/Widow (Magali Noël). The women silently exchange hostile glares while encircling each other, then move on. Regina is seemingly frightened by the sight of the widow (even running away) and the chance encounter’s timing (soon after learning about her own husband’s death).

Payoff: Toward the film’s end, Regina sees the mysterious Woman in black/Widow on a bridge which snaps her out of her dour and discombobulated state.  The women share a glance, a smile, and through nonverbal communication - a comfort and even shared kinship as Regina has become a widow herself. Both of their emotional states in a much better place than earlier in the film.

The music (Khaled and The Feelies) and variance of styles (Rai vs. Post-punk/Jangle pop) sets a distinct emotional tone and mood for each.
